I remember this episode and it was one of my favorites. It never gave me nightmares, but then again being a "Star Trek" fan as a kid, I was used to the "weird" morality tales. Well, that and being in High School in the '80s.

Excellent piece Zack. I remember being absolutely terrified when all the Joes attacked Shipwreck then converged into that blob-like thing before taking him away screaming to goodness knows where. The stuff of nightmares. Critics derided a lot of 80s cartoons as just toy commercials but we knew better didn't we? Now as an adult I have the entire series on dvd to pass on to my own kids someday. this episode totally freaked me out when i was little. the part where the dye washes out of his beard was especially scary, for some reason -- i remember it vividly. like "WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING?"
